SCISSORHANDS

Scissorhands Medium

Another sweet outfit inspired by the dark goings on over at World Goth Fair. Many of the goods like this dress and boots are equipped with texture change HUDs, which make it so much easier to coordinate an outfit in colors of your liking. I punked it up reminiscent of 1980's style with the jacket, which made me think ...

Scissorhands Closeup

Scissorhands! Thinking about 80's punky movies made me smile. I got thinking about Winona Rider, Beetlejuice, and on and on. Ah ... Good times.

TRUE COLORS

I wanted to do another post inspired by the 1980s. Perhaps I should apologize in advance?

... nah, it could be worse. The hair is bleached blonde with colored streaks a la Cyndi Lauper, and pretty big on top, but not too big. Yes the jewel-toned collar is turned up, and the shoulder padding is quite large. My earrings dangle and my bangles jangle. Large brightly colored lips in honor of Kelly LeBrock. (If you never heard of her, she was the one with the pillowy lips when Angelina Jolie and Liv Tyler were in diapers.)

But I could be wearing an izod polo, a plaid shirt with gold threads in it, or an aerobics outfit with a headband, belt, stirrup leggings and striped knit legwarmers, a la Jane Fonda. I could have a giant spiral perm. Or ... hammerpants *shiver*

Even the deities of fashion know better than to recycle old fashion fads without alteration. They are modified and toned down to make them more palatable. Still, I cringed the other day when I saw the cork and hemp wedge heels at the shoe store. I can tolerate a lot of things in Second Life that I can't stand in real life.

LA BRUJA

Should I quote Shakespeare with the three witches? Or something from the Brothers Grimm? No, only one thing keeps popping into my head ...

I put a spell on you, And now you're mine
You can't stop the things I do, I ain't lyin'
It's been three hundred years, Right down to the day
Now the witch is back, And there's hell to pay

I put a spell on you
And now you're mine!

Are we at Spring yet? I am going nuts from cold weather and being cooped up. I am finally hating all the blah blah blah colorless weather so I slammed together some prints and textures and bright colors, and went on the grid looking for something visually exciting.

SOFTLY

The last couple of weeks, I've been sick. It got me thinking. Along parallel tracks of thought:

a. I need warmer clothes;
b. it was stupid of me to take my daughter trick or treating in the rain, even with that big ol' golf umbrella;
c. It was fantastic going trick or treating in the rain; even if I got sick it was not to be missed.

So here I am in the cuddliest softest oufit I could get together. Just looking at the knitty sweaters and corduroy is making me smile.

Okay okay, so only in Second Life can I tuck cords inside my socks :) don't be a critic.

SOUTH FOR THE WINTER

I admit it. I totally stole the name for this post from these cool socks. But the shoes are delicious too.

Hmm. Read this body language.

Okay I'm really kind of shy and socially clueless. But if I have to be a nerdy librarian, can I be a littlebittasexy nerdy librarian?

BEACHBUMMIN

Nothing schmancy, just this year's beachwear. I love this suit. The bum ruffles remind me of the ruffle underpants I had when I was little. You remember those?

This happily sloppy man's shirt is comfy and will keep me from getting too much sunburn.

Have you seen my book?

p.s. I did need to modify the prims on the shirt a good bit, because it was shaped to fit men, but it wasn't too hard. Apart from just the size, I tilted the bottom edges of the shirt-tails outward a little to keep them from cutting into my hips. Not too difficult.

PERSPECTIVE

I went to the Alternative Fair expecting a romp through latex, tattoos and schtomper boots. But ... Frankly, I went to the Alternative Fair expecting less than Art. In my heart of snobby hearts, I don't call it Art unless it makes me think.

Take a long look at these glasses. ... (and imagine that my right lens is animated with the static of an off-the-air television screen) ...

Our ability to perceive distance, and understand three dimensional spatial perspective, relies mostly on binocular vision. Art can imitate depth of field using linear perspective, focus, by putting a grey haze in the distance of a landscape, but with only one point of view, our vision becomes flat. With one eye covered, does it matter how many windows or lenses I place in front of the other eye? Should I filter half of my vision through the static of a video screen or media opinions? Or should I give myself permission to see what I see?

Some people don't want to know what I see. I could make them happy by removing my head. I wouldn't see or think a thing. I couldn't speak. Would that work for you? ...

Me neither.
